Yeah i used 3m 2inch masking tape. When i did the etching i turned the pressure down in the blast cabinet to around 25 psi. This kept the tape from gettin messed up, and remember it is plexi glass i was etching, that stuff's quite soft.

how rare is it to come across a blast cabinet? I mean can I go to the local hardware store and rent one or something?

If you look around the internet a table top version can run you anywhere from $169 to $250 from what I 've seen.

You don't need a blast cabinet per say... You can buy a pretty basic sand blasting setup for $ 50? Of course you'll need a hood, and protection that covers your body. The kit consists of a syphon type sand blast gun, a bucket of blast sand, and a tiny air compressor. But i'd just suggest following rheb's sanding method. I think rheb was the one that did it?
