Hey, how's it going guys? Quick questions for all you networkers out there. Everytime I open up My Network Places and then go to browse the network the window hangs for almost a full minute or two, stops responding, and then all of the sudden it works and everything goes through. I don't understand why there would be such a hang time. Internet runs just fine, using a D-Link router DI-614+ which works perfectly. I can see everything on the network and transfer times after that initial hang are normal, but it's just the enormous amount of time that I have to wait that's really getting to me. I'm also running Norton Internet Security 2004 PRO, and I've looked through a few articles about that with allowing IP ranges, but it's already configured to allow all network access through my local IP address. If anyone has any ideas, that'd be great. Thanks.

as well, on all comps, open up the properties for the network connection and remove all protocols other than tcp/ip. as well, set the speed/duplex settings to 100 full duplex.

Thanks a lot C_Deck, that did the trick. I had IPX/SPX installed, I think I used to use it for older games, but I don't need it anymore. I didn't know about that speed trick though. I figured it would just use the highest speed to begin with. Rbreb, I haven't tried disabling norton yet, but now that the problem is solved, I guess I don't need to, but thanks for the suggestion. That used to be a problem of mine that people just told me was something with norton and there was nothing I could do about it. Thanks for all the help guys. Problem solved.

most likely, if you had to, you could reinstall the ipx protocol without having the hangup.
