Default CPU Temps

Hi,

I have a Volcano 9 fan running at around 5000-5100 rpms and a SLK-800 copper heatsink. I'm running an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ processor at the stock settings (1.83GHz) but I'm experiencing really high temps. Right now I'm running at about 54 degrees Celsius. I'm using Artic Silver as well. I was just wondering if anyone had some ideas of how I could get that temp down. I thought of maybe taking my heatsink off, cleaning it and my CPU off with some alcohol or something and reapplying my Artic Silver and then making sure everything is placed correctly. Some help would be great.

Thanks

I would try that. Look at the bottom of the HSF and make sure theres a nice little pressed in rectangle of AS. You might not be getting good contact. Make sure you follow the directions on the as site for putting it on. To much is actually detrimental to performance.
Try a different fan, rpm's mean nothing. It's the cfm's that count.

Thumbs up Things are awesome

Haha, guess what? I had my heatsink in backwards (lol) What a stupid mistake. I wondered why it was so easy to put it in this way when it was hard before. Now I know. I do think, however that they could have made one tiny adjustment to the heatsink to make it better. Just flip the clips around and it would make a world of difference. The way it is, you actually have to take your mobo out of your case to put the heatsink in. At least with my tools! Now my CPU's running at about 31 degrees Celsius (roughly 25 degrees lower) and my mobo is at about 22 degrees Celsius.

Cheers!

Actually, I just didn't bother to look at the bottom of my heatsink. At least I didn't pay for it with my CPU. Now it's overclocking real nice.

Default "Cranking it up"

Well, I do want to 'crank it up' as you put it but I want to be careful about messing up my CPU. I have it at 2.08 GHz and it's about 40 degrees Celsius. So I don't think I have to worry. With this fan and heatsink I have, I have some settings that one of my friends had with his. I'm just debating whether I should just automatically overclock to those settings ... want to be careful, you know?

I have my CPU up to 2160 MHz (AMD MHz, mind you, not Intel) It's going nice. I had it up to 2320 MHz and the CPU was only going at about 45 degrees Celsius but it wouldn't boot into Windows for some reason. Hey, does anyone here know a good temp for a motherboard? Or should I say, what's too high a temp?
