computer crashes midgame ALL THE TIME!

heres my problem:
i just custom built my computer half a month ago. when i try to play games, the computer will lockup in a middle of the game. the screen freezes and scratchy sounds come out of the speaker. this has happened in Rise of Nations, Warcraft 3, and Counterstrike. i found it to occur faster in warcraft. this happens ALL THE TIME. i thought i may have faulty drivers (from updating) so i redid windows from the fresh start, but it still occurs. anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

here are my system specs:
asus p4p800 deluxe
p4 3.0 ghz 800mhz fsb
radeon 9800 pro 128mb
sound blaster audigy gamer

i havent overclocked anythin and my temp stays around 30C

please help

It looks like drivers... but if it's not drivers, you're gonna have to pull the nic card, sound card, etc, out one by one, when gaming, even try a different video card to see if it's an individual card causing the problem... it might even be a compatability issue between some cards. Tell us how it went...

What OS? Could be IRQ conflicts. Do what bass said, then try moving the sound card to a different slot. Creative makes sucky cards IMO. They don't like sharing at all. If you have the sound in 1 or 2 thats probly it.

that's ashame. top of the line equipment and she craps on ya.
delete the drivers for the sound card in add/remove. delete the drivers in device manager. shut off the comp and pull the sound card out. use onboard sound to see if it works.

let us know how you make out. tell us what you've done so far.

it worked the day i finished puttin everything together. im runnin win xp pro (legit of course). i remember playin warcraft 3 in amazement in comparison from a athlon 1gig with 16mb tnt2 vid card hehe...ancient stuff.

drivers...im using the drivers that came in cds along with the cards. they were are a bit out of date. NIC is onboard, i will try moving the cards to different slots tomorrow. i have only 1 class tomorrow.

if i remember correctly...i put vid card in AGP, skipped a space, sound card, skipped a space and then modem. i'll make certrain tomorrow when i move em.

Check the mobo manual ASUS is really good about showing what shares with what on the PCI slots in their documentation.

oh yeah ill put up other specs (in case they may be of conflict)
seagate HD 160gb
corair xms 1 gig ddram

most times when a comp freezes and the sound is balled up at the same time, its sound card/driver related. i bet if you do what i edited in my last post, everything will be aok. then we can go from there.
