Default asylum geforce 5600 installation problems

hello,

i purchased this video card yesterday . . . the previously installed card
was an Excalibur Radeon 9000, 128mb. I removed all the ATI drivers,
installed the new card and booted with the install cd in. it got to about
52%, then hung up. i rebooted, and got to the desktop - saw my desktop for
about 1 sec, then the monitor went blank. i rebooted in safe mode, ran NFR,
Detonator R.I.P. and Driver Cleaner - still no go! i installed the latest
drivers from the Nvidia site, even went to Guru3d.com and got the latest one
from there, with the same results . . . any ideas? my motherboard is
running the latest version of its BIOS as well . . .

my system:
asus 7v133 motherboard
1 gig ram, 80 and 40 gig hard drives
windows xp pro

A complete reformat I always think is in order when you upgrade a video card, especially when you change brands.

i unplugged everything from all the pci slots . . . it still only made it to the dragonback demo on 3dmarkse2001, and sometimes not even that far . . . right now i'm following the directions here:

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33656771

we'll see if that works . . . does anybody have more suggestions?
