The AsRock K7S8X and K7S8XE boards are f*cking good for what you pay. They're based on the SiS746/748 respectively. Really Stable boards and unofficial BIOS's are available to further boost performance.
ECS are comparable to AsRock pricewise but ECS still have a bit of a shady reputation for PSU problems etc. You could also look at an iWill or DFI for a cheap SiS748 board. Incidentally, AsRock are no longer anything to do with ASUS as ASUS now uses the "X" series for budget boards. |

I read an Anandtech facility tour of ECS, they said Asrock is a subsidary of ECS.

Well, speaking of budget comps... that Chaintec looks like gold compared to the PCCHIPS (
) Mainboard I built into a new system for my bud's uncle a few days ago... onboard vid, nic, usb and snd. Decent, came with a preinstalled Duron 1.3Ghz, which to my surprise, ran decent. Window's update wouldnt't work tho So I ended up manually updating Windows... argh

ECS is a Sub of PC Chips (most people think it's the other way round) who have links to Matsonic et al. AsRock WERE owned by Asus (thus most of the mainboards have identical heatsinks), but they parted company when ASUS decided to release the -x series. The original point of AsRock was to compete with ECS. |

Incidentally, there's no mention of AsRock in that article.
