Question ABIT IS7-E IDE BOOT Problem

Hello Folks..

Here is the problem...

I have an IS7-E Bios is v20 booting from a SATA Hard-drive that has windowsXP PRO on it, the drive has 3 Partitions...

Been running happily for sometime now until suddenly it would not boot.. Freezes just before the windows loading splash screen, after loading AGP440.sys (read alot of strange posts about this agp440.sys) when trying in a safe mode boot.

The last thing I was running that I can think of was SiSoft Sandra, bench Marking my Ram's. I didn't add any new hardware. I have since recived some new GEIL that I had ordered before this problem, swapped them and still the same problem.

I can get the system to boot IF I remove all the devices from either IDE 1 or IDE 2, doesn't matter if it is a H/D or CD-ROM OR even how many devices or there locations on the cable OR even which IDE I remove the drive. Simple fact is it won't boot if there are devices on both IDE's.

I have the Boot order set and It is in Enhanced Mode which preserves the normal IDE channels. Sata Boot drive is on Master CH3 this is set as first boot device.

I have tried the following...

- Diffrent devices on the cables.

- A known good IDE cable swapped around the two IDE's, all the cables seem to work fine.

- Tried to boot in Auto and Enhanced mode.

- In case of a power supply problem (Tagan 480w) removed all devices apart from my Sata Boot drive and one device on each IDE, still no boot but it will if I remove the device that is on EITHER IDE 1 or 2 don't matter which.

- Deleted and recreated new partions on boot drive with a fresh install of Windows.

- Turned down O/C settings to standard 2.8, Ram on SPD and loaded defaults into BIOS. Still no joy.

- Cleared CMOS and re-flashed.

- Double and triple checked Jumper settings for Master/Slave.

If I have 2 CD-ROM's for example one, one on each of the IDE channels, NO boot. Take one of them off, Either one doesn't matter which and It boots.
Using CD-ROM's as an example so not to add confusion by adding H/D and changing Boot Priorites but I have the same problem with H/D's.

Every device I try works fine on another system.
Just no boot if I add a device to BOTH IDE 1 OR 2 if the other IDE already has a device installed BUT boots fine if EITHER IDE 1 OR 2 doesn't have a device.

Heelppppp!! Please...

I been working on this for 2 weeks now and I'm stumped.

Boot to your WinXP CD.

Hit F2 for repair.

Type in fixboot /mbr

If that doesn't work, just give your ram a spin:

Thanks for suggestions..

NO Go on the fixboot..

Tested the RAM with memtest passes fine.. My old samsung ram PC2700 was failing (my brother in-law sold me cheap out of his old rig.. I knew there had to be something wrong he's as tight as a duck's a**e) which was why I ordered some new GEIL.. I always test new RAM when I get it.

i think you got firemachine too early in the morning. this is his fav. a psu problem. try another power supply. it may be the ide controller circuit has a bad component in which case simply get a $20 pci ide controller.

Hehe.. OK well it's Mid Afternoon here Any way's tried the PSU put my old ANTEC back in a bit ago.. No GO..

Looking at IDE controller cards to get me by until I upgrade my MoBo..
I'm at the opinon it's the IDE controller Too.. Just was unsure because it doesn't seem to effect a paticular IDE channel...

Thanks for sugestions though.. IDE controller for me I think..
