If there’s one style of game that seems like a perfect fit for an iPhone game, it would be an animated adventure game. And that’s exactly what Iconic Apps published today, with the help of Don Bluth Films (yes, that Don Bluth, the guy who animated Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace, both of which have recently received Blu-Ray releases which we have reviewed).

"Banjo" plays a lot like Dragon's Lair, where you touch the screen to progress through the animated film.
“Don Bluth’s Banjo The Woodpile Cat Adventure Game”, is actually an iPhone-Game-Version of Bluth’s 1979 animated short, Banjo The Woodpile Cat, which he made as a side project while being bored to death working at Disney. According to the press release, you play through the movie itself by “pressing the flashing icons/lights to advance to the next scene.”
That may sound a little too simple to be a game, but what really matters is the quality of animation and background scenes. The iPhone is a great showcase for Bluth’s unique classic American style of animation, so hopefully the game does him justice.
It’s available now on the iTunes App Store, for $1.99
You can watch the first 3 minutes of the film at MyToons, where you can purchase the stream for $13. I feel sort of bad for missing out on it during my childhood; it looks like it’s pretty good! I’ll be sure to check it out (if I ever get an iPhone…) and post a review here (if…).

[...] “watching” the game and tapping arrows, it should work okay on the iPhone. Unlike Banjo The Woodpile Cat, Space Ace was originaly intended to be played like this. You can get it on iTunes by clicking this [...]
