If you’ve read through our recent 128GB SSD roundup, you’ll know how much we like the Crucial M4 around here; as a sub-$200 128GB SSD, it is tough to beat. And it just got a lot tougher, with the v0009 update. According to Micron, the drive will benefit from the following features with the new firmware:
- Increases:
- sequential read speeds by up to 20%
- PCMark Vantage benchmark scores, which results in an improved user experience in most operating systems
- Improves:
- throughput performance
- write latency for better performance under heavy write workloads
- compatibility with latest chipsets
- intermittent failures in cold boot up related to some specific host systems
- Provides:
- users with faster boot up times
- compensation for SATA speed negotiation issues between some SATA-II chipsets and the SATA-III device
That is all according to Micron; we have yet to put it all to the test. I will be including it in our next SSD review, which should be soon. If it is at all better, it only enforces our high regards for this drive, and I am glad I recommended it as a good mid-range SSD solution in our last review.
