Canadians Forced to Cross Border Shop for Rock Band

As reported by Shack News at the first of the month the release of Harmonix’s Rock Band in Canada has been delayed until December 17th. Rumblings out of EA and MTV Games is that the delay is due to the need for billingual documentation and has nothing to do with a supply issue. If the numbers arriving in US stores are to believed there might very well be a supply issue soon, especially with Canadian consumers making the trip cross border to pick up US units.
I know personally of a local gaming centre, desperate for the game, that has ventured south today in search of full game setups. After calling ahead to all the major outlets they have found none with more than 10 copies in stock. (One actually said they had the game but none of the controllers…WTF?!?!) The good news though, or bad news if you are EA/MTV/Harmonix, is that none of the outlets report brisk sales either. Should there be a servere lack of supply it could be a giant for a game that has otherwise looked very promising. With Guitar Hero 3 already showing three weeks of strong sales and rumours of a day one patch to fix faulty strum bars, a shortfall in units could easily convince gamers that have held off from buying GH3 in lieu of Rock Band to simply give in and get the game that’s actually in stock (doubly so if you’re a Canadian buyer), especially if you want to have it before Christmas.
