A good indication of how the format war is going is to look at the sales figures for the huge blockbuster titles. 300 happens to be such a title, and the figures are in for its debut last week. First of all, 300 is the fastest and best selling High Definition disc ever released, shattering all previous records. Unfortunately, things aren’t looking great for HD-DVD so far, with the Blu-Ray version of 300 outselling their version at a ration of 65:35. Although that roughly matches the estimated userbase ratio of the two formats, HD-DVD was hoping that the extra features in their version of the movie would help win this battle.

The HD-DVD camp has yet to respond to these numbers, but expect to hear something similar to what they said about Casino Royale; that most of the Blu-Ray userbase is made up of PS3 owners (and gamers) who are more likely to buy movies like these. Right. Keep telling yourself that, guys.
