Computex 2010 – Asus is showing off what they call a “concept motherboard” that we hope makes it into stores soon. Using Lucid’s Hydra System-on-a-Chip, there were able to integrate a full out desktop GPU right onto the X58 Immensity motherboard. The one they are showing at Computex is an X58 board called the Immensity, and features an ATI HD5770 on board. Yup, an X58 with an on-board GPU:
If an integrated 5770 isn’t enough for you, you could add a just about any card you can think of – even one from Nvidia – and the 5770 will run in the background to ‘boost’ performance. Whether they can get it all working with well-designed drivers will be interesting to find out. We all remember what the early days of multi-GPU gaming were like (and in some ways continues to frustrate when a game isn’t supported by SLI drivers). Photo by hardwareluxx.de
