Asus has knocked it out of the park in the past, with their “Republic of Gamers” lineup of hardcore enthusiast motherboards. Both the Intel and AMD series of ROG boards have gained attention for record breaking overclocks, and solid integrated components. The Crosshair V Formula we’re looking at today is the second AMD board we have tested, and the specs are immediately impressive, on paper at least.

Based on the 990FX chipset, the Crosshair V Formula supports the latest AM3+ processors from AMD. This includes all Phenom chips, as well as Athlon and “FX” chips, better known as “Bulldozer”.
As mentioned, the list of onboard components is what will grab your attention first, and we will take a look at all of them in our acclaimed “Motherboard Tour” later in the review. Before we get to the details, let’s take a look at the layout of the board, something that is very important, and can separate the good motherboards from the bad.
