As we have shown in many of our video card reviews, AMD drivers tend to have issues with frame delivery in some games – that is the time it takes to display frames at a consistent pace. We explain why we test like this in our reviews, so you might want to check one of them out. The issue is even worse when two or more video cards are used in Crossfire – so bad that in some cases you are better off using a single GPU rather than two. Even when the frame rate is higher, the actual frames you see are stuttered and janky to look at.
AMD plan on releasing an all new driver set that address these issues specifically, on July 31:
Big news for CrossFire! We plan to release our driver that delivers improved multi-GPU frame pacing on July 31. More info soon.

This is a huge deal for those using dual GPU setups. If the results of alpha testing hold true, you will now benefit from smoother gameplay received from the higher frame rates you get in Crossfire. For the first time, the FPS will be more than just a number!
