The 80 Plus specification provides consumers an easy way to compare different power supplies. While it’s not the only thing to look at, it gives you an idea of what to expect from each unit.
There are several different specs, each with a different set of standards. 80 Plus Titanium is the latest, and most stringent one (despite Titanium being worth much less than platinum, gold, or silver… But it sure sounds cool!). It is the only one that sets a 90% target for a 10% load – on both 115v and 230v platforms. It has been around for a while, but only recently showed up on Ecova’s official 80 Plus list.
So far there is only one consumer PSU that qualifies as 80 Plus Titanium – the 600W Super Flower SF-600P14TE. It qualifies at 90% efficiency with a 10% load, even on 115VAC, which is not an easy task. Read the full report here.
I’m sure others will be re-certifying their units if they think they can pass, but at the very least it’s good to see a list taking form. You will definitely want to bookmark this page if you’re in the market for a high end power supply that is very efficient.
