If you think graphics in today’s games haven’t been stagnating due to a long console cycle, this new 3DMark trailer might change your mind. It’s always interesting to see what the gaming tests look like in each new 3DMark; when they first hit the scene, they blow our minds. Then once you have run them a bit, they really show their age.
The Fire Strike trailer is the first of three game demos in the as-yet-unnamed 3DMark that will be released imminently. According to FutureMark, some of the techniques used include tessellation, dynamic particle illumination and shadowing, smoke simulation using grid-based fluid dynamics, volume ray casting with shadows and a wide variety of post processing effects including depth of field, blooms, distortions and various lens effects.
The result is pretty impressive, to say the least. For more info, check out FutureMark’s 3DMark page.
