We all agree that Nintendo’s Wii Remote design is ingenius in its effectiveness and simplicity. Many first-party titles are using it to make certain games more immersive than ever. Unfortunately, 3rd party publishers see the Wii as nothing more than shovelware bait though, since so many people own one.
It took an independent engineer though, to [...]

I ran across this interesting video of Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision (and now Activision Blizzard), talking about his thoughts on the general future trends of gaming. I found the bit about planted advertising in games an interesting discussion.

According to initial reports, the Playstation 2.10 firmware supported DivX but not XviD. We reported this when the firmware was first announced, because after all, the site that reported it actually had it and actually tested it.
Unfortunately, the person who tested it may not have their network running properly. As it turns out, Xvid plays [...]

When the PSP first went head-to-head with the DS, many saw it as having a huge advantage of being a personal multimedia player, as well as a gaming device. Unfortunately, UMD movies were a total flop, and converting your own movies for most people was a total pain in the ass with free 3rd party [...]

When we reviewed the GT3 “Sport Compact PC” we were impressed with its ability to fit a full-ATX motherboard, full-length PCI-E video card (with double-width cooler), an extra PCI or PCI-E card, 2 hard drives, and standard size CPU cooler in a tiny (4″ wide) case. We even gave it our coveted Innovation Award, only [...]

For all the doubters, turns out we were right ;)
Tomorrow, Sony will release the 2.10 firmware for PS3, which adds Profile 1.1. To find out more about what this means, please read our original post on the subject.
DivX support is also going to be added, along with VC-1 WMV support. However, there are rumors that [...]

Guess we can file this one in the “Well Duh!” pile.
AMD has officially admitted that it overpaid for it’s purchase of ATI. Though the 3.2 Billion dollar allocation for “goodwill” (e.g. the value of the ATI brand – almost three times the value of ATI’s product technology) paid as part of the purchase was questioned [...]

We recently published our AMD vs. Intel Dual Core comparison, which led some to wonder why we didn’t compare their quad-core chips instead. As I stated in the review, one reason was that we simply wanted to write a CPU review discussing products that more people can afford; even the high-end dual-core processors we [...]

This is our first full-blown CPU review in – quite some time. I decided to pit AMD vs. Intel in a dual core battle, comparing their fastest sub $200 processors against each other. For kicks, I also threw in a Core 2 Quad Q6600, just to see if Dual Core is dead yet.
The bottom line? [...]

When I wrote about the XBOX 360 vs. PS3, one of the PS3’s biggest advantages was its superior multimedia support. The 360 could play WMV files, some MPEG-4 files, and some MPEG-2 files with crappy containers, but that’s about it.
Well on December 4th, that is all about to change.
The XBOX MSDN blog has a [...]
